Rumor has it that originally it was set up in such a way that it became easy for people to type quickly. But this jammed the typewriters, so they came up with the mixed up qwerty keyboard. But in fact I'm not super sure.
This is a throw back from the days of mechanical typewriters. The keys were arranged in this fashion, with the most used letters opposite of each other, so the hammers with the letters on them, didn't crash into each other and jam up. Because most typists had become used to this layout, it was natural to continue with computer keyboards being the same.

The QWERTY keyboard design is based on a layout created for the Christopher Latham Sholes in 1873. The key layout is specifically designed where the most used keys are laid out in a manner where, as a typewriter the hammers (that carried the letters) would not jam with others pressed at the same time. The age old typewriter jammed frequently as the typist hit keys where the keyboard was laid out in alphabetical order (a, b, c, d, etc). The layout carried over when the electric typewriter was then created and later when the first word processors were introduced. Thereafter it became a business decision that changing the layout would cause businesses huge costs as they would have to retrain their typists for a new key configuration.
Computer keyboards use the QWERTY layout designed by Christopher Sholes on early typewriters. The reason for this placement is to reduce the typing rate in order to avoid jamming.

Because that was the way the key board was designed

Free On Board (FOB)
If you wanted to know the word well... the letters they use are not even on a key board.
for a key board with 61 keys this is how it is set out: it starts with c and goes up to g cdefgabcdefgabcdefgabcdefgabcdefg and so on, it should end with c
a b c d e h i k m o t w x y but in capital letters on the key board
The Shift key is used to make a few capital letters, but the Caps Lock makes all letters capital until you hit it again!
Mixed In Key was created in 2006.
