HOW- it started in African American churches. the attendents that could read, would read off a line and the congegation 'sings' it back they do that thru the whole song.
WHY- not everyone was aloud to read back then (1700-1800's ish) it was one way for the people that could not read to sing praise...
Lining-out is a tradition in some churches where a leader sings each line of a hymn and the congregation repeats it. This practice may have originated as a way to help congregants who were illiterate follow along with the lyrics and learn the songs. It also emphasizes the communal aspect of singing together in worship.
They sing the hyms by "lining" because they are a poor black church. during this time period, blacks were not very well educated, so many couldn't read. calpurnia was one of the few blacks who knew how to read. hymn BOOKS would be pointless, because they woulnd't be able to read them.
Because they didn't know how to read and because they couldn't afford to buy more bibles.
Hymns are sung in the church to praise and glorify god.
Songs that are sung in Church are usually Hymns although Psalms are also sung.
A hymn board is a board in a church that tells you what hymns would be sung in the mass that day.
Hymns sung at Pentecost include: Come down O love Divine, Spirit of the Living God and Love Divine.
James Watt was raised in a Protestant family and was a member of the Church of Scotland. He maintained a strong faith throughout his life, but he was also known for his scientific and engineering contributions, which were not directly related to his religious beliefs.
The are a vast number of "hymns", songs and musical pieces that may be sung at a church wedding, therefore it is almost impossible to list all the hymns that would be acceptable. The hymns/songs that are not acceptable are secular in nature. ie: "You light up my life" had been a favorite of many a bride. The is not appropriate, being hedonistic in tone. The last line being "How can it be so wrong if it feels so right?"
Caroling originated from hymns sung in churches, since Christmas was originally a religious holiday.
Christians sing hymns, because its a bit like singing a prayer ! x
anthems and chorales
A carol is a festive song typically sung at Christmas, often associated with joy and celebration, while a hymn is a religious song of praise or worship typically sung in a church or religious setting. Carols are often secular in nature, while hymns are more focused on religious themes and are used in worship services.
Ambrose
My personal opinion, it should not be sung in church.
