I have a friend who is in anonymous and truth be told - it wasn't anonymous that hacked PSN.
It was another group of hackers, I can't remember who, but the reason they are doing it is because they don't believe that PSN was good enough and Sony wouldn't listen or make changes to it so they're doing this to get Sony to take action and improve it.
I also know that none of the files we're encrypted apart from credit card details; but everything else, including people's address, email accounts and passwords were not encrypted.
If your feeling left out because Microsoft's Xbox Live is always boasting of better service and trying to make PSN appear to be inferior or less adequate then don't be - Look at all the illegal copies of windows and other Microsoft products. I should also mention that they're going to hack Xbox Live too.
