While newer violins can have a beautiful tone, the older a violin is, it gerneally has a very deap tone colour. This tone is what makes 'antique' violins valuable, because they are older and it is hard to buy a new violin with the tone that is desirable for certain types of music.
One can buy affordable antique violins from 'ebay' where many are listed for sale in various conditions. One can also buy them from 'Vintage Violins' and 'JR Music Supply'.
I talked to an antique stove collector in Indiana today who says the this is not a very desireable stove for collectors. And I should concider myself lucky to get 250.00 for it. I paid $100 for it and will be asking $250.00 for mine in the buy sell bulitin based on what a new and comperable stove would cost. They are in the 400 to 500 dollar range. So sorry no value as an antique.
