No, and in many cases they're less powerful.

The thing they call an "assault weapon" is just a scarey-looking gun that is all made up in black, with an evil pistol grip, a sinful detachable magazine and (gasp!) a bayonet lug.

And then you get to the ammunition. There are three basic calibers for assault weapons: 5.56mm NATO, 7.62x39 Russian, and 5.45mm Russian. Go to any gun store and ask for a .30-30 rifle--one of the mildest hunting calibers around. It is more powerful than any of those assault rifles. (A 7.62mm NATO round goes in a "battle rifle," not an assault rifle.)

The US Military is currently looking for a 7.62mm NATO rifle because they've found when a grunt shoots someone with an M-4, sometimes they don't stay dead.

Improved Answer (added) : The term "Assault Weapon" is a political phrase coined in the 1980's after the California 'MacDonalds massacer' , it attempted to describe weapons that operated no differantly than other weapons of the same type .

Anti Gun groups took advantage of public ignorance of firearms to enact laws against such guns , the problem then became identifying such weapons .

An 'Assault Rifle' is a military term orginating with the German WW2 'Sturm Gewere' SG41 (I think) and the more popular Russian Karishnikof AK47 .

Theses are military , fully automatic (machineguns) with selectable semi auto capability .

They typically use mid range caliber ammunition .

A light machinegun uses high power rfle ammo , a submachinegun uses pistol ammo .

Some civilian semi-auto firearms have a "military look' to them , black , pistol grip , bayonet attachment and other frightning aspects but they function the same as any other hunting or sporting firearm.

Since there is no difference between a "sporting" rifle and a "assault weapon" (functionaly) , anti gun fanatics attempted to fool the public in order to achieve their objective in banning as many types of firearms as possible .

The so-called "civilian assault weapons" as defined by the BATFE don't function different from other firearms - they're identified as such by a series of mostly cosmetic features. But they have a scary appearance which makes them easier for politicians and pundits to target.

What are Joe Biden lies?

Joe Biden lies when he says gun control laws stop crime. Also, the so called assault weapons ban he wrote as part of the Biden Crime Bill is all lies as these weapons never were assault weapons and statistically are used very minimally in crimes. Matter of fact, the BATFE top 10 guns used in crime do not even include a single weapon listed in Bidens assault weapons ban.

Are ak-47 bb guns illegal in va?

The AK-47 is not a BB gun. As for BB guns styled to resemble an AK-47, they're as legal as any other BB gun. These so-called "assault weapons bans" (which Virginia does not have) are applicable only to centrefire firearms.
