people are hunting them and killing them. also they are getting in fights with humans and they get hurt. Poor animals!

∙ 13y agoI guess the obvious answer is because people are afraid of them. Human expansion + wildlife do not go well together definitely if the species is that big. Brown bear used to be pretty common and well once expansion of the human population came to be, they had to either move or fight for their territory. Food supply could also be an issue. Bears can eat almost anything and do not exactly require fish or mammals. Given enough, a bear can eat nuts and berries and survive. A few other types of bear are endangered mainly because of human hunting. In some old cultures a bear-hunt was customary with tribes too.
