Defiantly because of natural selection. there were camels that were grey and some that were sandy colour, predators could see the ones with the grey and so they ate them, whereas the sandy ones survived, and passed on the sandy colour gene.
To blend in with their background. Zebras have stripes to camoflage themselves when they are in a herd. Different animals are created to adapt to their surrounding area that they live.

most camels do not camouflage as they cannot change colour like a chameleon or hide because they are so large and have got some abnormally large humps but some camels can camouflage because they are the same colour as the place they normally would live probably a desert which is a sandy-brown colour.
