clear the land of all animals, wild grasses the ability to regenerate to a 'desired' yearly production level, apply chemical fertilizer yearly, possibly a pesticide etc and you get the cash crop set up. What is the end game of it all. To feed the world or the community? No it is to feed a livestock industry where the cattle don't get out much anymore. Well they would but grazing lands keep dissapearing as even marginal lands are tile drained and and ploughed and made to be as productive as possible. What are these crops used ofr, food additives, livestock feed etc. Farming wouldn't have to be so terrible for the environment long term. The family farm is dead. Small farms used to have cattle pasture and hay ground and fertilize with thier own animals manure. Now its bye bye fences, tree, swamps, grass, insects etc etc. All the run off and tile draining is a whole other issue

That all depends on how the cash crops are raised. The crops themselves can be raised in a completely sustainable and environmentally-friendly way. These might include soil erosion, water pollution, air pollution, even pollution of the farm field itself.
