Unlike most cells in an adult body, an embryonic mass of cells is always dividing. Most cells in the adult body is quiscent and will not divide unless signals have been given to them to divide, and many cells such as muscle and nerve cells have even lost the ability to divide.

One reason researchers prefer to use embryonic stem cells instead of adult stem cells because adult stem cells are often found in limited quantities, are difficult to isolate, and the older the donor, the less stem cells they have.

Why root tip of an onion is an ideal specimen for examining mitotic division?

The specimen is inexpensive and easy to obtain. Further, it's easy to cut a thin slice for viewing with a microscope. The cells are large and distinct....and root hairs grow at the tip, which means that we find lots of cells in various stages of mitosis and division.

Can heat effect plant and animal cell?

Heat can definitely effects both types of cells. If cells become too hot or cold (or vary too far from their ideal temp.) they can denature and become useless.

Why cells divide but don't increase in size when they're growing?

Because a cell is of ideal size for its job. Get any bigger and these processes would not be able to work across the cell. Therefore when more cells are required the cell replicates itself.

How cells structures relate to it function?

Its structure determines the function it has. For example, red blood cells are biconcave discs, kind of thinner in the middle and thicker around the outside. As it turns out this is the ideal surface area to volume ratio for exchanging things between the inside of the cell and outside. When you consider that the function of red blood cells to carry oxygen to the cells of the body the structure of the RBC is ideally suited to its function.

What subject is cytology the study of?

The study of cells and it's functions, is known as cytology. It is a field of biology that focuses on investigating cells under a microscope to learn about their traits and characteristics. Central BioHub offer a extensive range of human cell samples such as peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), blood cells, and primary cells ideal for experimental research to develop next-generation therapeutics and diagnostic agents.
