- A "real" mouse, not a trackball, clickpad or similar
- Full-size keyboard where you can actually touch type without difficulty
- Higher performance; laptops have mobile versions of CPUs which use less power
- Larger monitor
- Somewhat more difficult to steal
- Typically more storage for user files
- Wall current rather than a battery
