The reason why the western side of the US is larger is because, Western land was sparsely populated. The U.S. government used a new survey system called "Township and Range" to divide the land into sections and quarter sections. The land was free to anyone who would settle it. Settlers were given land by the government in quarter sections. There was nothing in the way of drawing large states since the government owned the land. Township and Range surveying provided the large square shaped states as opposed to the small crooked states of the east. The boundaries of the east states were decided by a system of "Metes and Bounds", an old English system of determining boundaries using natural landmarks. "Meets and Bounds" results in a smaller state. For instance, rivers, trails, tree lines and mountains were used to go from one boundary point to the next. An example would be "from Crooked River to the Federal Road to the beginning of Miller Mountain and so on". Eastern states were more densely populated and most of the land was privately owned. States and territories were more likely to split and become two smaller states.
Western states are larger in area. Eastern states are denser in population.
This is because when colonists first came to America they claimed land. Later into the 19th century bigger pieces of land are in the west. Look at a map and notice how the 13 original colonies are the smaller states as western states such as Montana, Texas, California, and Alaska are bigger.

i dont know but yeah i have that for homework too
because west coasat lies along a major fault line named san Andreas fault....
East
There are so many earthquakes on the west coast because the west coast is between tectonic plates. These plates move and cause earthquakes.
According to the theory of Plate Tectonics and Pangaea, the east coast boundaries were once connected to the west coast boundaries of Africa, Europe, and parts of north-western Asia. The irregularity of the east coast of the Americas as well as the west coast of the respective continents were caused by the "tearing" of one land mass from the other, an action which did not happen on the west coast resulting in a straighter more regular west coast.
It is probably because the East Coast is not beside faults or at the edge of and tectonic plates. If you look at the West Coast, California has a fault. This causes volcanoes in Washington and Oregon.
There is a lot more tectonic plate movement in the Pacific ocean than the Atlantic, it is more volcanic, and very little to stop the Tsunami before it reaches the coast.
bridges are made differently in another area that doesnt have many earthquakes because : when they dont have many earthquakes they dont really worry about it collapsing and that you have to build it sturdy and some or more places then the others.
East
The west coast has all sorts of plate boundaries, young mountains, and faults, thus more quakes. so when the plates rub together an earthquake occurs.
There are generally more mountains on the west coast of the United States compared to the east coast. The Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada are prominent mountain ranges on the west coast, while the Appalachian Mountains are the major range on the east coast.
One can find more information about the East Coast Railway by going on the East Coast website which will offer information on wine services, transportation and other tourism areas.
All earthquakes are caused by is slippage of tectonic plates underneath the earths crust. The closer a location is to the meeting of two tectonic plates, the greater chance of an earthquake. The west coast of the U.S. is right along the edge of a tectonic plate, resulting in more earthquakes. While the east coast of the U.S. isn't anywhere close to an edge of tectonic plate, resulting in less earthquakes
Atlantic coast!
The east coast is more heavily populated.
Earthquakes and volcanoes are more common along tectonic plate boundaries.
atlantic coast
west coast has alot drier, fluffier, and usally more snow than the east coast. if you are shopping for west coast skis, you would probibly look that a "rocker" ski. and if you are shopping for a east coast you would want a stiffer ski and one that you could really hold a edge with on the east coast ice
it is diffrent because west has more plate boundaries
