There are no false gods in Catholic churches. If you are referring to the statues they are there as a reminder of the pure lives and martyrdom of the Saints. It's a reminder that we too can strive to live for God. It's no different then having a cross in a protestant church to remind people of Jesus' sacrifice.

Roman Catholic Answer"False Gods" You are referring to idols. What a strange notion! Wherever did you get such an idea? The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit; and He guaranteed to be with it to the end of time, and to keep It from all error. Don't you believe Jesus and take Him at His Word?

from Modern Catholic Dictionary by John A. Hardon, S.J. Doubleday & Co., Inc. Garden City, NY 1980

Idol. Any creature that is given divine honors. It need not be a figure or representation, and may be a person. In fact, it may be oneself, or some creation of one's own mind or will. An object becomes an idol when it is treated as an end in itself, with no reference to God. (Etym. Latin idolum, imagine, picture, idol; from the Greek eidolon, phantom, idol.)

from A Catholic Dictionary, edited by Donald Attwater, Second edition, revised 1957

Idol. Any person or thing, other than God, usually an image of some kind, to which divine worship is paid. The images in Catholic churches are not idols because divine worship is not given to them. The "graven things" forbidden by Exodus xx, 4-5, are precisely idols as above, and not images in themselves.

How many false gods are there?

The number of false gods depends on your own beliefs. If you are an atheist, then all gods are false, without exception. If you are Christian, Muslim or Jew, then all gods but the one true Abrahamic God are false. Taoists, tolerant by nature, tend to accept the gods of all religions, although gods outside Taoism may not be relevant to its followers. Thus a Taoist accepts the possible existence of the Christian God, and is reluctant to see any false gods.

Who worships false gods?

All gods are real to their own followers, but may be considered false to followers of other gods. So, the concept of 'false gods' is, to some extent, a theological one. The more intolerant religions may call the gods of other religions 'false', while those religions that practise tolerance merely say, "we do not believe in that God (or those gods)."

What is the catholic churchs opinion on helping others?

The Catholic Church based on the teachings of Jesus believes in loving God above all else. But in order to love God Catholics believe based on Jesus' teachings, that to love God they must love all of Gods creation, especially human-beings which are sacred. So the Catholic Church says that we must help others by putting ourselves last and serving all people no matter the race or religion, and by doing so Catholics do it for the love God.

What would you call the belief in the Roman gods?

A:The one thing you could call belief in the Roman gods is 'religion'. Some people believed in all the gods, and this would be polytheistic religion. If people believed that the gods all existed, but only worshipped one of the gods, this was henonism. Those who believed in all the gods, including the God of the Jews, were 'God-fearers'. For the Romans, there was no general compulsion to believe in or worship their gods to the exclusion of others.

What was Muhammads view on worship of false gods?

To the one who asked an important question Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) did not agree with worship of false Gods. In the history of pre Islamic Arabia when Muhammed had not received the revelation from God he was categorised as a HANIF (Hanif was the name given to those people who believed in one God. After the revelations from God came,God completely forbade worship of false Gods under all circumstances (and orship of false Gods is the biggest sin therfore Muhammed pbuh did not do it) it was Muhammed (pbuh)'s duty to proclaim under the order of God to forbid worship of false Gods! thank you for asking such a wonderful question!

What is another name for a false god?

The term "false gods" implies that there are "true gods" as an option. There is however no test or noninvolved third party to decide which type the particular god being worshipped is.As a consequence all gods may be false or non-existent, true or existent or there might be some in each camp. Nobody knows.
