Several studies have been done on what makes for the easiest to read signs. Red and Yellow are extremely popular and that is why a lot of traffic signs are those colors. Green also has high visibility though, which is why US Interstate Highways signs are green and is viewed as a more relaxing color than red.

Where can one find information on what exit signs mean?

An exit sign is a device in a public facility (such as a building, aircraft or boat) denoting the location of the closest emergency exit in case of fire or other emergency. Most relevant codes (fire, building, health or safety) require exit signs to be permanently lit.

What is the color of a fire exit sign?

Some are red, some are green. In any case, they are always brightly lit and very easy to see due to the requirement of "high contrast". UL 924, the standard that includes "illuminated exit signs" allows them to be either red or green, leaving it to various state codes to select one, if there is a preference. NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code) does not specify any requirement for color of EXIT signs -- only that they have high contrast of the letters and background. Exit signs may usually be illuminated internally or externally.

What is the law on fire exit signs?

As a general rule, exit signs must be placed above each exit doorway and in locations where the direction to the exit doorway is not clear. There are many different laws, depending upon what jurisdiction you're in, what type of building it is, and how many exits there are, among other things. International Building Code (IBC) specifies where exit signs must be located, as do various Fire Codes and Life Safety Codes. Other rules include when and how they must be illuminated, how backup power is tested, etc. Local regulations may require more than the minimum number. For example, local code may require additional exit signs at floor level, in certain circumstances, making them easier to find when crawling in a smoky hallway.

What kind of fire protection system is used in a server room?

Fire protection includes adequate means of egress, exit signs, exit lighting, fire doors, fire alarm and fire suppression, among other things. What is the importance of safety signs?

Safety signs alert people to situations that could be dangerous if they didn't know about them. One of the most common signs warns of wet, slippery floors. If you know that the floor is slippery, you will walk more carefully on it, and therefore will be less likely to slip. Exit signs are also a type of safety sign, because in certain situations such as a fire, it is necessary to find the exit quickly, and if someone doesn't know where the exit is, they may need help finding it without having to wander around looking for it. Safety signs can prevent injury or death, therefore they are important.
