Because the actual resistor is too small to print numbers, so color bands and math are used instead. I just don't know how to calculate the values.

What is the meaning of resistor?

Resistors are one of the three basic electronic components. They restrict the flow of current in an electrical circuit. Fixed resistors have a fixed value of resistance, and are used in almost every electronic circuit for lots of different reasons.

DC voltage of 120 volts is feeding series circuit consisting of 2-ohm 6-ohm and 8-ohm regular resistors a variable resistor For line ammeter to indicate 1.5 amp the variable resistor must be fixed?

If the DC voltage of 120 volts is feeding series circuit consisting of 2-ohm, 6-ohm, and 8-ohm regular resistors, the variable resistor for line ammeter to indicate 1.5 amp, the variable resistor must be fixed before the amp.

How many types of potentiometer?

There are basically two types of resistors.-Fixed resistors-Variable resistorsFIXED TYPE:Fixed resistors are classified into 4 types based on various factors like manufacturing style, resistance range, power rating etc.The four types of fixed resistors are1)Carbon composition2)Carbon film3)Metal film(again classified into thick film resistors and thin film resistors)4)Wire wound-which consists of power style type and precision style typeVARIABLE TYPE:They are used in electronic circuits to adjust the value of voltages and currents.Ex. They are used in televisions as volume control, brightness control etc. There are three types of variable resistors. They are1)Potentiometer-classified into carbon potentiometer and wire wound potentiometer2)Rheostat3)TrimmerWire-wound, carbon compound, metal strip, and in modern times, the silicon transistors in linear region are used as resistors

How to design a phase shifter circuit using operational amplifier to have a desired phase shift?

There are many phase shift oscillator circuits on the internet. Google search, `phase+shift+oscillator+schematics` and `phase+shift+oscillator+diagrams`. Generally, if you want to change the phase shift characteristics, you'll need to substitute some fixed resistors with variable resistors and depending where they're placed, you can either change the operating frequency or the waveform characteristics.

Why rheostats have current rating in addition to resistance rating?

A resistor, of which a rheostat is, has a maximum amount of current it can handle. Beyond that value it will start heating up a lot and might burns up. Since, the maximum resistance of a rheostat is fixed so does its maximum safe current value that can flow through it.Comment'Rheostats' and 'potentiometers' describe applications of variable resistors; they are not alternative words for variable resistors.

Why are fixed resistors values indicated by colors insted of numbers?

The assembler would have to ensure that the numbers were in a readable position upon assembly. This would add a lot of time to the manufacturing process. A colored band which encircles the device is easier to read from any position in which the device is installed and any angle from which the component is viewed.

What are the types of resistors its application and uses?

This seems like a question from an electrical course, and is probably best answered by your course materials. It's your test question, not ours, and there won't always be someone to ask for the answer. Earn your diploma.

Difference between variable and fixed resistor?

Variable resistors means that a resistor which can change its resistance by control by any person or it self and fixed resistor means that it can not change its value.
