Most scientists currently believe we are born with our sexual preferences already established. Sexual identity may be genetic or it may be chemically induced but it does not appear to be something people have any control over.

Initially, it is something about the way they look-- a nice smile, pretty eyes, nice hair, broad shoulders, etc. I have found that there is often something "familiar" (note the word is rooted in "family"?) in a person's look that attracts you to them.)
Ultimately, however, the guy's character is what holds a girl. Anyone can develop a strong character being honest, thoughtful, kind, polite, etc. That is always attractive.
