Since air is "clear," sunlight passes through it easily and heats the ground. The atmosphere then gets heated from the ground and the atmosphere is warmer near the ground. As warm air rises from the ground, it expands and cools, and the sum result is colder air at higher altitudes than at the surface.

Although higher altitudes are closer to the sun compared to lower altitudes, this difference has little to do with the warmth of the planet at any point along its surface. The main factor influencing the Earth's temperature is the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone - traps heat in the atmosphere, allowing the surface of the Earth to warm up. Some of the sun's radiation is reflected back into space - about 30%, depending on factors such as cloud cover and geological features.

The temperature decreases as altitude increases for a number reasons. Firstly, as altitude increases, air pressure decreases. This will result in the expansion of atmospheric gases, leading to a lower temperature. Secondly, the atmosphere is actually heated from below. Most of the energy from the sun enters the Earth's atmosphere in the form of visible light, which doesn't heat up the atmosphere as it passes through it. When this light is reflected by the Earth's surface, it is in the form of infrared energy, which can be absorbed by the molecules in the air. Greenhouse gases act as a barrier, preventing most of this infrared energy from escaping back into space. This results in there being more heat closer to the ground compared to higher elevations, such as at the top of a mountain.

because the earths crust generates heat and the sun also descend heat energy to the earth. the lower you are its going to be hot. But as you move away from the earth air pressure decreases.

The Atmosphere is Thinner. The atmosphere is like a blanket. the thicker the blanket the warmer you are. the thinner the blanket the colder you are. And so I thing this is right.

i think it is because the sun is very far from us and the ground gets baked in heat, plus you are getting closer to space, and space doesn't absorbe heat
