Freshwater lakes supply most cities with drinking water. Industries also need lakes to survive. Large lakes affect the climate of a place, and are an important source of fish, waterfowl and fur bearing animals that live on their shores. Many lakes are man made and they are used for producing hydroelectricity and also for irrigation purposes. Do you know Ohio, city in USA has only man-made lakes.
Lakes are one of nature's most beautiful wonders, and are great tourists attractions. People go to a lake for boating, swimming, fishing and ice-skating etc. Sadly lakes are used as dumping grounds for sewage and wastes from cities and factories, and this poses a serious threat to the ecology of the region. So it is very important for us to keep to keep our lakes clean as lakes are very useful to us in many ways.
