larger leaves mean more chlorophyll this makes it easier for photosynthesis to take place also the larger the leaf the larger the surface area, which means that the leaf can absorb just as much sunlight as a smaller leaf grown in direct sunglight.
Because in a shaded area there is of coarse less sunlight so they leaves have to adapt and grow larger so it is easier for sunlight to hit them. Where as in a brighter are the leaves don't have to be so big because there is lots (even excess) sunlight for the leaves to pick up.
Additional: leaves need sunlight for the photosynthesis process where they turn sunlight into energy (food for them).
The sun has many harmful rays and plants are often in the shade to protect themselves from these rays, and also to prevent overexposure. When plants are in direct sunlight, from sunup to sundown its like they are eating a feast; being in the shade provides relief.
Probably so they have a larger surface area to gather sunlight on their leaves to create food for themselves, since they don't get as much sunlight as the ones directly in the sun.
They have big leaves to try to absorb more sunlight
To get as much sun as they can.

Phyllotaxy is important in positioning leaves so that they do not shade each other.
the answer varies because not all leaves are the same but most green leaves only contain a lighter shade of green(sort of like a jade green)
Provide a large surface area for photosynthesis to take place. Shade and protect the stem of the plant.
They do need some sunlight but can survive in moderate shade.
shoe tree
no, they aren't
These plants have such leaves because wider, flatter leaves will catch more sunlight. Sunlight is needed for plants to survive, so when they're in the shade they adapt to be able to get more sunlight.
because plants need sun in order to grow, and the sun gives a plant vitamins to the plants, otherwise,if it is in the shade,it does not receive any vitamins that's why it wilts.

Plants rely on sunlight for photosynthesis (the process by which they make sugars i.e. food). They "trap" the sunlight with aid of a pigment - chlorophyll. This pigment is also responsible for the green colouration in the leaves. In the shade, a plant increases the size and concentration of chlorophyll in its leaves so that it is able to absorb more of the available light. It therefore appears a darker shade of green. Plants in full sunshine have more than enough sunlight for growth- hence they have smaller leaves with a reduced concentration of chlorophyll- their leaves are thus a lighter green.
PLANTS: plants survive in the desert by having small leaves. the small leaves take up less water than bigger leaves. their roots also go deep in the soil instead of growing out. ANIMALS: reptiles may stay in their den or in the shade during the day but in the evening they go out and hunt. there are not many big animals because the bigger you are the more you need that is why the biggest animals in most deserts is the coyote and the bob cat and burro.
smaller leaves, as less surface area is needed for photosynthesis if exposed to larger amounts of sunlight. For example, if you compare geranium leaves on identical plants, some in strong steady sunlight, others in shade: The leaves in the shade will grow larger than those on plants in sunlight.
When in a normally green plant, it indicates a lack in production of chlorophyll, made by the chloroplasts. However, some plants simply have red leaves.

Plants which grow in shady places are called Shade Tolerant Plants......Like in the Amazon forest..where the plantation is very thick and trees grow tall and enormous. Their leaves act as a canopy or they form a blanket which does not allow sunlight to reach the ground...yet there are plants which grow below this canopy of leaves because they are shade tolerant plants....they dont require much sunlight....Dominic Ferrao ...domyferrao@yahoo.com
The plant cell absorbed water through osmosis and the central vacuole in the leaves of the plants pumped up or became bigger, making the leaves bigger.
