Because they can only be bred in zoos so no one ever breeds a lion or tiger. Lions and tigers can not meet in the wild because lions live in Africa and tigers live in Asia.
Officially, because they are a cross hybrid between a male lion and female tiger, ligers are not considered to be animals eligble for endangered classification by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

However, ligers can be considered endangered in any case because its parental species are both endangered animals.

The reason they are so rare is because it is very unlikely for a lion and tiger to mate, unless done in captivity. The reason for this is because lions and tigers live in different areas of the world while in the wild.

Ligers are not actually a species. They are a cross of a male lion and a female tiger. Therefore, because they live on different continents, you will never find a liger in the wild naturally. Ligers are unable to produce cubs, so you would not find a family group. Ligers only exist in circuses, where a male lion and a female tiger have been allowed to mate. (Tions are where the father is a tiger andd the mother is a lion.)

Ligers are very rare, there not such a great number of ligers that can actually br given a name of being extinct there are not enough of them, if its parents (tiger, lion) are being extinct then yes they are too.

yes they are because they do not naturally breed in the wild only ligers have been artificially bred in captivity and they wont be well in the wild for they are twice and large as a lion and a tiger and weih up to i think 800 pounds

actually about 700 pounds

They aren't really.

Since ligers are hybrid animals, cross between a lion and a tigress, and do not oocur in the wild as a viable species, they cannot be considered under any listing.

And as long as there are tigers and lions, there can always be new ligers.
