This is because a triacylglycerol is a lipid. Lipids are largely hydrocarbons and they generally do not dissolve in water but they do dissolve in nonpolar substances like other lipids. Monosaccharides are carbohydrates and they contain hydroxyl groups that can easily dissolve in water.

Monosaccharide's, like practically all polysaccharides, are water soluble. This arises because carbohydrates contain sufficient hydrogen atoms to promote hydrogen bonding with water and oxygen atoms to promote ionic interactions. These types of bonding supports water solubility.

Mono- and disaccharides have a lot of polar functional groups, called hydroxy-groups. (R-OH)

(Therefore saccharides are also called "polyoles".)

Hydroxy groups can be seen as 2/3 of a water molecule, so they are very similar to water and can have a lot interactions with water. A lot interactions = good solubility.

We have to study the stucture of the monosaccarides;they have a very short chain of carbon atoms which are easily hydrated by water molecules, some monosaccarides are aldoses and the aldyde group .even increases it's solubility.

Are monosacharides water soluble?

Monosaccharides are soluble in water because they contain hydroxyl groups and either a ketone or an aldehyde group. These polar functional groups make sugars very soluble in water.

Do monosaccharides dissolve in water?

When glucose or other monosaccharides are placed in an aqueous solution, they curl and take a ring form. This is in contrast to the linear form they take otherwise.

What does muccopolysaccharides mean?

They are long unbranched polysaccharides consisting of a repeating disaccharide unit. Polysaccharides- are relatively complex carbohydrates. They are polymers made up of many monosaccharides joined together by glycosidic bonds. Disaccharides- is a sugar (a carbohydrate) composed of two monosaccharides. One of the four chemical groupings of carbohydrates. Monosaccharides- are the most basic unit of carbohydrates. They consist of one sugar and are usually colorless, water-soluble, crystalline solids. Some monosaccharides have a sweet taste. Hope this helped! :)
