Because:

1. People are close-minded.

2. Since that the LDS don't believe in the trinity, people automatically assume we aren't Christian.

3. They THINK that we do not believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior.

We ARE Christian, hence the name "The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints". We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and our Savior. We know that He died for our sins. Period. Just because we don't believe in the trinity doesn't mean we aren't Christian. We ARE.

Many Protestants and Catholics believe that Mormons (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) are not Christians because Mormons do not believe in the trinity, that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are one person. Mormons believe that they are one in purpose but not in substance.

Also, Mormons believe that salvation is through faith in Christ coupled with repentance (a general turning from a life of sin to following Christ). Many mainstream Christians believe that repentance is not required for salvation and that Mormons are trying to work their way to heaven.

There are other beliefs and practices that many Christians find uncomfortable, such as the building of temples and the practice of temple ordinances in addition to Sunday worship, the emphasis on modern day revelation through living apostles, and other scriptures (i.e. the Book of Mormon) in addition to The Bible. Also the Mormon church has no paid clergy and most members live the law of tithing where they give ten percent of their income to the church.

Since the Mormon church claims to be the true Church of Jesus Christ restored to the earth by Jesus himself, the church does not acknowledge the priesthood authority of other churches though it supports the good works of other churches and the freedom to choose religious practices.

(Another Answer) I am Mormon (LDS). I promise we are no different than you guys. I play for a Competition soccer team, I play on Sundays with my team, I am no different than you. Everybody thinks we are polygamists, but were not, the F LDS religion bashes us and spreads false rumors about us. We are Christian we believe in Jesus Christ we believe in heavenly father. We are not a cult, the people that say we are are wrong. At Mormoncult.org he says that he was a "true blue" Mormon for 20 something years. The reason he is saying that is because he is F LDS. We believe that the Book of Mormon is a another testament of Jesus Christ. We believe that the Bible is another testament of Jesus Christ. That is fine that other religions believe that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the holy ghost are one, we believe that they are 3 divine figures. We believe that long ago the church was wiped off the earth, Later when Joseph Smith was 14 Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him to restore the church. We also believe that Jesus will come again, and Satan will be bound.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) are Christian, they are just not Protestant, Catholic, or Orthodox Christians.

Several things make Mormons stand out from most other Christians. For example:

* Mormons are non-Trinitarian. They believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are three separate beings united in purpose. They reject the Nicene and Apostolic creeds as well.

*Mormons believe that the original New Testament Christian Church apostasized after the death of Jesus Christ. Therefore, true Christianity needed to be restored to the earth by Jesus Christ himself, not reformed from an existing church.

*Mormons believe that God calls prophets to lead the Church today, just as he did in Ancient times. They also believe there are 12 Apostles, just as in the time of Jesus.

*Mormons believe that if someone dies without accepting Jesus Christ, they are not lost. By performing a baptism in behalf of someone who has died, they believe that this person has a chance to accept Jesus Christ in the afterlife.

*Mormons believe that the vast majority of people will go to one of three degrees of heaven, and that only the most wicked with be damned.

*Mormons believe that families and couples will be together in heaven, and that the family is the fundamental unit of society on earth as well as in heaven.

*Mormons believe in a universal resurrection. That is, they believe that all people will be resurrected just as Jesus Christ was. This will take place after the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and before Jesus Christ performs the final judgment of all people.

*Mormons use scripture in addition to the Bible. These are the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

*Mormons believe in the eternal nature of the soul; that we existed in heaven with God before we came to this earth, and that we will return to heaven to be with God after leaving this earth.

*Mormons believe that more than just faith in Jesus Christ is required for salvation, and that the purpose of our life here on earth is to become more like God and Jesus Christ.

Mormons still believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the World, and that the Bible (King James Version) is the Word of God and should be used as holy scripture, just like other Christians.

Mormons, formally the Latter Day Saints, actually consider themselves Christians. They are not as well known as members of other Christian denominations simply because they are comparatively few. They are probably better known than their numbers would otherwise suggest, simply because of their missionary activities, but in spite of these missionary activities membership is reported to be stagnant or falling.

There are several reasons why some do not consider members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) to be Christian.

Mormons are not 'traditional' Christians - they are neither Catholic nor Protestant. They claim to be a new restoration of New Testament Christianity, rather than a break-off or continuation of another Christian group. Mormons do not adhere to any of the historic Christian creeds (Nicene Creed, Apostles Creed, etc). They are non-Trinitarian (believe that the Father, Son, and Spirit are three individual beings rather than one). Mormons believe there is more scripture than just the Bible (the Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants), and believe that God continues to lead His people through Prophets and Apostles just as in Biblical times.

Mormons agree that they are not traditional Christians, but emphasize that because they believe in salvation through Jesus Christ and they strive to emulate Him, they are still Christian.
