Different non-native peoples chose to travel to and reside in differing parts of the U.S. to flee religious persecution and wars. So, some people from northern Germany and Scandinavia decided to reside in many northern states such as Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, and, Nebraska--hence, the strong connection to the protestant Lutheran faith.
