OIder bacteria cells are decolorized more easily than younger cells, because as cells age their cell walls become "leaky" and allow molecules to pass more readily out of the cell. In gram stain, the crystal violet-iodine complex is more readily lost during the decolorization step.

Can you relate endospore staining to endospore survival in hospital or other environments?

Endospores are highly resistant to environmental influences. Most disinfectants cannot permeate it. Because bacterial endospore walls are not readily permeated by materials in solution, the inner contents of the endospores are not easily stained by ordinary bacterial dyes. The relation is that it is not killed or stained by ordinary methods.

Can bacterial vaginosis turn into trichomoniasis if left untreated for too long?

Bacterial vaginosis can't turn into trichomoniasis, but trichomoniasis always causes bacterial vaginosis. Many women with recurrent BV have trich and don't know it, since BV is more easily diagnosed than trich. To diagnose trichomoniasis, the health care provider must look at the vaginal discharge immediately under the microscope, or needs to use a special trichomoniasis swab.
