Because they think it will give them power to do it again. All that really winds up happening is that their so called "power" is drained, and they begin to feel bad about themselves, thus trying to reach you again in any way possible ignoring your boundaries and trying to control you again.

And, it is a parents job to control you until you are of age, financially independent, educated, worldly wise, and out of the house! When you have your own children, you will understand. In an age of HIV, serial killers, shotguns, Jihad, etc, aren't you glad that you have parents who care enough to try to control all the whacked out things you TRY to get past them?
