For one thing, if they were the same as the drivers side, it would have to be mounted upside-down (in most cases). Also, the lense configuration allows a broader view, usually accompanied by a safety notice placed on the mirror warning that things are larger than they appear....or was it smaller...hmmm...what was the question again?
