That is the correct spelling of name for the hydrocarbons, phthalates.
It is my understanding when doing research for phthalates in our water samples, that phthalates are released from plastic containers. We changed our containers from plastic to glass and voila! no more phthalates in our samples. It seems that a water bottle with no phthalates would have to be a glass bottle,
Vinyl polymers doesn't contain phthalates.
The dangers of products containing phthalates are usually aimed towards reproductive and developmental health, since phthalates are considered reproductive and developmental toxins. Also, phthalates are accused of being the cause of testicular dysgenesis syndrome.
pacifiers are made of plastics but there are some chemical such as phthalates "DINP di isononyl phthalates". phthalates are generaly thought to be harmful. however the amount in pacifiers is said to be harmless
There can be if deliberately added, but no, not usually.
Not quite. They are restricted in children's toys.
In most acrylic paints yes. You can buy phthalate free paint but if it doesn't state it is so, i would assume there is phthalates in it. Most paint you will purchase is largely comprised of toluene, xylene, Ethyl benzene, and phthalates, as well as pigments and dye. It is pretty harsh stuff.
They can produce risk's to humans because they soften the plastic with phthalates. They can damage Human DNA to much exposure will damage them. They are linked to early puberty.
Many studies have shown that exposure to phthalate esters can have health risks. however, the main people affected by the ester are young children, as a study by a Bulgarian scientist in 2008 concluded that children exposed to phthalates were more likely to develop an allergy or asthma.
1. Phthalate esters are the diakyll or alkyl aryl esters of phthalic acid 2. The phthalates have a clear syrupy liquid consistency and show low water solubility, high oil solubility, and low volatility 3. When added to plastics, phthalates allow long polyvinyl molecules to slide against one another 4. They are colorless, odorless liquids 5. They are produced by reacting phtalic anhydride with an appropriate alchohol (typically 6- to 13-carbon.)
Phthalates are phthalic acid esters used mainly as plastic additives. They increase the flexibility, transparency, durability, and longevity of the plastic.
