Why are pit bulls hated so much?

Because people think that pitbulls are vicious when they see a few of them like that because they've been abused for dog fighting, then assume that pibulls are mean dogs. Also because the media and pop culture just add a negative look to them. You wouldn't see a movie where a group of golden retrievers attack people as dogs of a gang. And people don't even notice that they only act as mean as the owner. Loving owner= nice dog, abusing owner= visious dog. It can be any breed.

The main reason is that people use them for illegal fighting. Fighting pit bulls involves chaining young dogs with the heaviest chains possible to make them strong and ''harden'' them. Then their ears are cropped (cut off) to make them look tougher and to stop the ears from being torn off. After that, a stray dog is caught, muzzled and tied up for use as a ''bait dog'' which the young Pit Bull is forced to attack. Then the owners organise secret fights in which the Pit Bulls are FORCED to fight each other in a pit. Onlookers bet on which dog will win and which dog will lose or be killed. The loser of the fight (if it is still alive) is then taken out back and killed or left to die. Then, even if the dogs are rescued they cannot be rehomed and are euthanized. The media represents this breed as savage and uncontrollable - even though the dogs themselves are the victims and would rather not have been fought.
