In the case of protein digesting enzymes, known as endopeptidases, such as those secreted in the stomach (pespin), it is obvious. If they were secreted active they would digest the glands which secrete the enzymes themselves (gastric glands).

Instead they must be secreted in an inactive form, which once in the stomach and exposed to HCl acid and other pepsin enzymes the pepsinogen activates and begins digesting protein.

Are the digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas produced as inactive precursors or are they activated in the digestive tract by proteolysis?

BOTH!!!

Why are proteolytic enzymes produced in an inactive form?

Proteolytic enzymes will destroy the cells that produced them if they are produced in an active form. To protect the body's own cells these enzymes are secreted in an inactive form into the digestive tract and activated where they are needed.

What are the digestive enzymes secreted as inactive proteins called?

To protect the body.

Where are most digestive enzymes produced?

Most digestive enzymes are produced in the stomach. You will find that with the complex ducts throughout the human body these enzymes can travel to other areas of the digestive system. These areas include the salivary glands, the stomach, the pancreas, and the intestines.

Where are the digestive enzymes of Hydra produced?

In the GastroVascular Cavity

Why are enzymes produced?

Enzymes and digestion. The enzymes involved in respiration, photosynthesis and protein synthesis work inside cells. Other enzymesare produced by specialised cells and released from them; the digestive enzymes are like this. They pass out into the gut, where they catalyse the breakdown of food molecules.

The enzymes which enter the digestive tract through the duodenum are produced in the what?

pancreas

Which digestive enzymes are action at site different from the site where they are produced?

amylase

Which of these is not produced by pancreatic islet cells?

Insuline and glucagon are the only hormones produced by the pancreas

Where are animal cells digestive enzymes in the cell?

Digestive enzymes are contained in vesicles called lysosomes. They are produced by the Golgi body and dispose of worn-out organelles and carry out digestion.

Is pepsinogen organic or inorganic?

Pepsinogen is an inactive form of the digestive enzyme pepsin. Almost all enzymes are proteins, and proteins are organic macromolecules.
