Why are same sex marriages considered to be more stable than traditional marriages?

This is not true for all marriages. It depends on the individuals concerned and their own situation. However, reasoning for this could be that same sex couples have a better understanding of each other. Stereotypically, lesbian couples will be in touch with each others feelings, for example. This increase in understanding could be the reason for the relationship being longer lasting and stronger. Often men and women separate due to differences of opinion or 'insensitivity' of feelings.
Another reason could be that, for many gay couples, it is difficult socially to get married because of some remaining discrimination. On this line, gay couples may have to have a very strong relationship to get married, because there is a lot which they need to get through together. However, in many straight marriage, the marriage is done on a whim and so the couple do not need to have such a strong relationship.
These are just two points of reasoning; there is no absolute answer to this kind of statistic. Every married couple will tell you something different.
I'd like to add that there has been research done showing lesbian couples as having the longest lasting relationships and the research indicated several reasons in this large study: the lesbians had completely mutual decision making unlike many heterosexuals in which the man is seen as Head of household. Secondly, the lesbians were much more upfront with each other without a lot of the unspoken expectations in heterosexual relationships.
