The benefits are endless : Less pollutants reduce the ozone depletion and help its rebuilding...this reduces the green house gases...adverse effects on climate change are minimized....the hurricanes...untimely rains...drought...all of it....are drastically controlled.... More oxygen to breathe and a healthy lifestyle! I'd write a book on it if I had the opportunity to.

Biofuels (meaning fuels derived from converted biomass) are useful for several reasons.

1) They can be grown locally which reduces the need to import foreign oil

2) They have a smaller greenhouse gas life cycle (or carbon footprint) since the feedstock plant fixes carbon dioxide during its growth

3) Some transportation fuels (ethanol, biodiesel, etc) can economically grown to reduce the cost of blended petroleum fuels.

Scientists (and businessmen) are interested in advanced biofuels, particularly cellulosic ethanol, algae biodiesel, and biojet fuel for several reasons.

1) cellulosic ethanol uses an waste, residue, or woody biomass as a feedstock; it is very cheap

2) algae uses sunlight to convert carbon dioxide to oil; it is very efficient in terms of space needed compared to traditional plants

3) Many industries are looking to improve their public image (including the airline industry ) are potentially willing to pay extra for biojet fuel.

Either way, to make advanced biofuels economically possible, reserach is needed to improve plants yields and breed (or genetically engineer) microbes such as yeast, E. coli, or algaes to convert feedstocks to the exact chemical desired
