Because Twitter is a microblogging site. Microblogs allow users to send a small elements of texts and/or links of images, videos and sites. However, there is a site called "twitlonger" that allow users to post messages that exceeds 140 characters.
Text messages are restricted to 160 characters in order to save network bandwidth. If the messages were longer, cell phone transmission would be much slower.
Because the purpose of Twitter is to write short updates on your life/job.
Twitter is not a blog/journal and not a chat. It's just a way to keep people updated.
Veery unlikely. A SMS message is sent in 'blocks' of up to 160 characters - and are charged at the service-provider's 'standard' rate. Long messages (that are more than 160 characters) are charged in multiples of the standard text rate. For example - if text messages were charged at 10p - and your mesage went over 160 characters (but less than 320) - you would be charged 20p

Short Message Service, a protocol that supports transmission of text only messages up to 160 characters long.
Friedhelm Hillebrand, experimented with number of characters around 1985. He tried random sentences and questions and then counted the number of letters, numbers, punctuation marks and spaces. It seemed to always come short of 160 characters. Not sure if that would be enough he tried comparing it to other things and sure enough text found on postcards at that time was averaging on 150 characters.
when typing your text and you go over 160 characters your words should wrap onto a new text slate and that will send to the person no matter how long.
Many people want to text. Texting is a very popul;ar activity that people do on their cell phones and other mobile devices. Text messages are usually 160 characters or less and often made up of abbreviated words.
Most of the mobile phones allow for text messages of 144 to 160 characters only. If you type a longer sms, it allows you to type it as one text, but the receiver gets it split into multiple messages. The breaking up of long texts that your phone does, is splitting sms text. Hope this helps. Thanks
A text message is a text composed with a limited amount of characters (letters, numbers, symbols, and spaces). Usually 160 characters is the max for one message, after that it turns into two messages, etc. I have a smart phone. Texting on a smart phone usually sends just one message despite how much you've typed. When you compose a new text message on a smart phone, it tells you how many characters the text message is and how many messages you would be sending. I just sent 2,525 character 17 page message to one person. For VZW (Verizon Wireless) Members, The max text message you can send is 1000 Characters. (to other VZW members and 160 to Non VZW Members)
SMS messaging stands for short messaging service which is a small text message of no more than 160 characters. These messages are sent from one cell phone to another.
160 characters it all depends on what phone
there was 160% increase in text messaging than phone calls were made
because if you text more than 160 characters then it sends the message as 2 texts, therefore charging u for 2 texts. it is to use less characters
