Why are the Answers.com Supervisors so mean?

There are a number reasons as to why you may perceive the supervisors as being so mean. Here are some of them:

1. You were warned or corrected - Sometimes users do break the rules, and nobody really enjoys being corrected. While a few supervisors have been known to be a bit heavy-handed, the majority tend to be fair. The supervisors don't make the rules, they only enforce them. If you follow the rules, then you won't face this.

2. You encountered a supervisor having a bad day - The supervisors here are human, and they face all the same trials of life that everyone else does. They can get sick, grieve for lost family members, lose their jobs, face divorce, be falsely targeted by the law, etc. If you run into a supervisor who it seems like you cannot reason with on a matter, do keep in mind that you don't know what is happening in their lives. They might come around later. Just try to be patient with them and not say anything that will inflame things further.

3. There may be a language barrier - Even within the same language and among two native speakers of that language, it is possible to not fully understand each other.

4. You may be discussing a view that they don't hold or cannot grasp - Let's suppose a female user of one race feels that men of another race are singling her out for inappropriate advances because they are racist toward her. She may be asking questions to try to stop this, and then one or more supervisors may get the wrong idea that she is the racist. No matter what she says to try to explain that she's the victim, they don't seem to get it, and she may feel she is being attacked on the site too. There is really no way to fix this type of conflict, but if you find things going in this sort of direction, then the best thing to do is back away from the subject matter. You don't want to antagonize the supervisors in question, since they may just block you. There are certain types of issues and situations where the more you try to justify your views, the more other side will perceive you as a bad person. Matters involving race, religion, politics, and human sexuality are where this type of issue is most likely to happen.

5. On rare occasion, your feeling might be right - Since we are all different, there is a good chance you won't like every supervisor on the site. You might believe one or more are a bit arrogant, suffer hubris, etc. You just have to learn to get along with them. The main thing is to follow the rules and try to avoid the supervisors you don't care for. If you must interact with them, keep any conversation short, civil, and to the point. Do keep in mind that they must have done something right, or they wouldn't be supervisors. However, if you find behavior that really crosses the line or which breaks the rules, you should take that to a Community Assistant or to Answers Support. Giving links as to where the conduct occurred would be helpful. However, before you do this, please make sure you are not breaking the rules and that what you allege really did happen.

They are not mean. The Supervisors on Answers.com are very nice and extremely helpful people.
They exist to ensure that the site is kept organised and that the Terms of Use are being followed by contributors.

If you follow the guidelines and the Terms of Use, there is no need for an Answers.com Supervisor to have to step in and tell you to cease the disallowed activity.
There is only so much patience a person can have with someone who violates the rules/guidelines of a website that they helped to keep organised. If you break the rules/guidelines or Terms of Use, you'll be asked to stop. If you don't stop, you'll be banned. it's simple.

Rules exist for a reason. And respect is earned, not given.
