When the Spaniards first set foot on the Philippines, the Filipino natives were not hostile on them. Instead, they welcomed the foreigners, listened to their teachings. They easily believed the story of Jesus since Filipinos before were pagans, and no ruler there had a law that the his people would have to praise their ruler as a God or anything. Filipinos are very hospitable, and they showed it by doing "services", like making the visitor as comfortable as possible, and even sacrifices his/her own convenience as long as the visitor is happy. The Spaniards saw this too much hospitable actions as an act of slavery, not the correct one which is hospitable. This made them more sure that an invasion would be successful. And in comparison of the weaponry, it was cannons and rifle against bows, arrows, and bolos. Anyway, the Spaniards went out to the other side of the world for three Gs.
God, Gold, and Glory.
I'll emphasize on the first one. God. By spreading religion, they could easily gain the trust of people. And Filipinos are very trusting. And so, it happened. The Spaniard priests would tell us to pay taxes and give money to the church and be good people, while they were just making themselves richer from the money given by the people. The priests themselves were corrupt. They committed crimes, and most priests were not virgins. Ask me why. That is pretty much why the Filipinos were easily pacified by the Spaniards.
The Spanish had muskets and rifles, while the Filipinos only had spears. Also, the Spanish turned tribes on each other before destroying the victorious tribe, saving them the work of destroying the other tribe.

Yes, the indigenous Filipinos had their own diverse cultures, societies, and systems of governance before the arrival of the Spaniards. They had established trade networks, social structures, and artistic traditions that reflect their civilization before colonial influence.

The Spaniards introduced the custom of having siestas to the Filipinos during their colonial rule. It became a regular part of the daily routine in the Philippines due to Spanish influence.
During the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, the Spaniards committed various abuses against the Filipinos, including forced labor, land seizure, high taxation, suppression of native culture and traditions, and violent repression of uprisings against Spanish rule. They also imposed discriminatory social hierarchies that favored Spaniards and marginalized Filipino natives.

The concept of siesta, or taking an afternoon nap/rest, was introduced to the Philippines by Spanish colonizers during their occupation of the country. This practice has since become ingrained in Filipino culture and is still observed by many people, particularly in rural areas.
