Because 0 degrees Kelvin, also known as absolute zero, has been proven to be the lowest possible temperature there can be, and is in reality an unobtainable limit.

It's hard to explain why without using statistical analysis, so try to think of it like this: at 0 degrees K, a massive object would have 0 energy, therefore losing its mass, since mass is proportional to energy. Furthermore, any object with no mass has to move at the speed of light which now brings in relativistic issues. What I'm trying to say is, nothing can actually even obtain a temperature of absolute zero because to many equations would blow up. Hence the term absolute.

Because their point of start 0K or 0R, is the minimum temperature matter can be at. No matter can be colder than 0k or 0R.

He invented the scale because he felt like measuring the temperature in a different way. He was very full of himself so he named it the Kelvin Scale after himself.
