the equator passes through austraila
The seasons are reversed. When it is spring or summer in the northern hemisphere, it is the autumn (fall) or the winter in Australia. This is caused by the northern part of the world being tipped the opposite way (towards or away) from the sun to Australia. The seasons in Australia and other countries in the Southern Hemisphere are reversed from those in the Northern Hemisphere. When it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, and so forth. For example, the Australian summer starts in December, while winter begins in July.
The seasons are not reversed in Australia. They still follow the same order - summer, autumn, winter and spring. The difference is that, when it is summer in Australia it is winter in the northern hemisphere, and vice versa. This is because of the position of the sun in relation to the Earth. To put it in the simplest terms, because the Earth is tilted on its axis, during the southern hemisphere's summer, it is closer to the sun than the northern hemisphere is, so receives more heat. This is reversed during the northern hemisphere's summer.

Australia is south of the equator, so seasons are reversed from those in North America. Summer in America is winter in Australia. Spring in Australia is autumn in America.
All of Australia's seasons are exactly the OPPOSITE to America's. So our summer starts December 1st, your winter starts December 1st.
winter
It would be Fall (autumn) in North America. After the September equinox, the southern hemisphere is tilting toward the Sun, and the northern hemisphere away from the Sun. So the seasons are "reversed."
the summer months in Australia are from December to June
Quite possible. You see, if you lived in Australia (for example) the month of December IS the middle of their Summer. Conversely, when it is summer in the US, it is their winter.
Europe is on the northern side of the equator while Australia is in the Southern side. This causes a reversal in seasons, and the direction in which the toilets flush(:

When it is winter in the US it is summer in Australia. When it is spring in the US it is autumn in Australia. The seasons are always alternating like this between the northern and southern hemispheres. The starting times for the various seasons are the same in both hemispheres: The solstices mark the beginning of winter for one hemisphere and summer in the other; the equinoxes mark the beginning of spring or of autumn, depending on the hemisphere.
