In ancient time the philosophers found that the universe is made of four elementary things. Fire, Air, Earth and water. And in a seasonal cycles for a full year these stages of our earth in a coming up in a circular fashion also observed these changes occurred approximately in every 30 days approximately with the transit of Sun in circular arc of the Zodiac which measured as 360 degree.

The observations were taken in night in night hours in the desert through some in built Pyramids by movement of stars. At that time Egyptian worship Sun God "Ra" who they consider sailing in a boat in the sky from eastern sky to western sky in a full day.

The observers who were astronomers or star watchers also detected fixed stars belt which they divided later in name and style as 'Zodiac in the sky.' They observed earthly event in the society with the rising of a particular zodiac in the eastern horizons and noted certain peculiarity of earthly happening with the rising of the fixed stars. From birth moments of kings to birth moment of animals of different animals they found some affinity of appearance, character, psychology , talents of the new born baby and animals with these fixed stars rising time and transit of particular planets their.

To remember the rising ascendant they named each Zodiac of the signs with the name of some well known animals who actually born according to that particular signs.

This is the actual mystery of the Zodiac signs. One thing one must know that at that time such kind of observations are results are kept within the Priest and top scholars of the society who strictly kept these knowledge as their livelihood were beard by the King for prediction about their ruler ship future.

As per both astronomy as well as Astrology, all the planets go around the sun (revolve). The common path on which they travel around the sun is called ecliptic. The ecliptic is not exactly circular but more like an egg shaped.

Now to make things simpler, the circular ecliptic has been divided in 12 parts called Zodiac. These are Aries, Taurus, Gemini.......Pisces. Each part is called a sign & is of 30 degree each (30 into 12 = 360 degree, a complete circle). The first sign Aries is from 0 to 30 degree, Taurus is from 30 to 60 degrees etc. These 12 signs are called the Zodiac.

Over many centuries, the wise people have observed the affects of planets when it is in a particular sign. Say Jupiter is at 40 degrees; hence it is in the sign Taurus. Now these wise persons, observed the affects on earth & people when Jupiter was in Taurus & as planets keep on moving, after some time the planet will go to the next sign (Gemini) & so on.

When a particular person is born, each planet is in a particular sign. The horoscope is basically a photograph of the heavens (planets), when a child is born. It tells us, in which particular sign (& house - another astrological concept) each important planet is. Based on this information, we can analyze astrologically how the planets & signs (Zodiac) will affect the life of that child over a period of time.

This is how Zodiacal signs have astrological importance.
