Many cities were located along the river Nile because in Egypt there was lots of desert and perople needed water to grow crops and to drink. Also the river flooded once each year spreading fertile silt over the farm lands.

Settlements were located in the Nile River valleybecause it had a long fertile valley that ended in a marshy delta by the Mediterranean Sea, which was good for farmers to farm and crops. Another reason would be because the Nile River had a good natural barrier which was the Libyan Desert, the Arabian Desert, and the Nubian Desert because of the extreme hot and dry weather, many people avoided the deserts, but it protected the people who lived in the Nile River valley.

The second facts that support living near the Nile River is that it linked to the Mediterranean Seawhere it was rich in fish and it was also a waterway that linked ancient Egypt to other civilization. The Nile River as well had a fresh water source in an area that was mostly desert. It provided natural irrigation and fertilization. And every Summer, the river overflowed its banks, the soaked the dry ground, and after several weeks, the water went down and then a ribbon of rich soil was left behind which was perfect for farming.
