Religion can be interpreted in may different ways, by many different people. There are so many branches in Christianity because so many people have so many different ideas on how to translate the teachings of the bible into modern-day terms. The people who believe in one way join a certain branch, and the people who believe in another way join a different branch. What branch you fall into is just a matter on how you interpret your religion.

AnswerWhen Christianity first started, in AD 30, every congregation in every city was autonomous (self-governing).

A change happened in the third century, when the bishop of the church in the capital of a number of Roman provinces came to take a leading role in that province. At the Council of Nicaea, in 325, this arrangement came to be formalised. Later these provincial bishops came to be called archbishops.

As time went on, the bishop at the head of each diocese (containing a number of provinces) came to be head of over all the provincial archbishops, and sometimes came to be called patriarchs.

In the western half of the old Roman Empire, after the empire collapsed there, the Roman bishop took a leading role, and all authority came to be centred in him in that part of the world, under the title of Pope.

Since the Protestant Reformation, this whole situation has gradually unravelled, with a move towards the autonomy (self-government) of individual congregations. In some places this has only gone so far as to set up self-governing churches in each country, such as the Church of England, the sister Anglican Church in Australia, the Lutheran Church in Germany, the Church of Scotland and the Presbyterian churches in other places. The Baptist Churches, and Churches of Christ, operate on a more independent model, as do a number of other denominations. Indeed, it is up to the Christians in each community to decide how they want to organise themselves.

It can be argued that it is natural for Christianity to have many "branches." At the same time, following the New Testament example, it is also natural for all these "branches" to recognize each other as fully Christian. This has already been achieved, f rleast amongst Protestant denominations, with this level of acceptance having the potential to be extended to encompass all the Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox communities, in other words, the entire Christian world.

AnswerThe truth is the diversity of religions is because people have become followers of men rather than listening to God. teachings that hold common in religion, but that are different from the bible, originated in ancient Babylon. who is the instigator of such religious confusion? The bible identifies Satan the devil as he God of this system of things. 2cor4;4. it warns us that the things the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God .1cor10;20. it is very important that we make very sure that we are serving the true God--JEHOVAH. not all religion is acceptable to Jehovah. judges 10;6,7 brings out that Jehovah's anger blazed against Israel because they served false gods. THEY HAD A ZEAL FOR GOD BUT NOT ACCORDING TO ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE Rom 10;2,3. we must do what Jehovah requires if our worship is to please him. and gain eternal life. Jehovah God wants to be worshiped with SPIRIT AND TRUTH. JOHN4;24. ONE OF THE CHIEF METHODS OF SATAN DECEIVING MANKIND IS FALSE RELIGION OF ALL KINDS, TO SOME HE GIVES A RIGHTEOUS APPEARANCE. 2 COR 11;14,15.
