no bonus quests were released on the earlier islands. the idea of a bonus quest came rather late in the game.
All of the islands made since mid-2012 have Bonus Quests for paid monthly members. The first was SOS Island (March 2012), followed by Vampire's Curse Island Twisted Thicket Poptropolis Games (returns in fall 2013) Wimpy Boardwalk Lunar Colony Super Villain Island Charlie and the Chocolate factory Zomberry Island Night Watch Island Back lot Island Virus Hunter Island
Most of the "bonus items" on Poptropica were part of limited-time advertising, or promotions for upcoming islands. Most are gone and their locations are vacant. There is a list of fixed-location special items at the related question.
Treasure hunts were searches for bonus items that reflected new islands on Poptropica. They have not been used for some time, although bonus items occasionally appear. The latest bonus item (June-August 2010) was the Hypno costume. To get it, you would go to Early Poptropica, to Poptropica Towers on the far left, and to the 4th floor of the green building. The center window has a flowerpot on it. Pressing the upper left pane of that window gives you the bonus item.

The treasure hunt was a term for seeking Bonus Items on Poptropica. These included items from coming islands, notably the sunglasses from Spy Island and a Kaya Forest mask from Nabooti Island. They were located in various places throughout Poptropica and are no longer available. (see the related question
Early Access is to Paid Members OnlyIn keeping with the PAID monthly memberships on Poptropica, only those memebrs will have Early Access to new islands. This does not mean there will be other islands available to members. But members will have first access, and this is currently between 3 and 4 weeks earlier on new islands (only paid members can play the short Bonus Quest on some islands).
There is a costume effect (the Shrink Ray) that does this, but it does not affect the island quests. There are islands such as Lunar Colony and the Vampire's Curse bonus quest that require you to be small, but effects cannot accomplish this.
