The rain forest implies rain. In nothern Africa ther is Sahara desert, sp there is no water available. Its latitude from the equator is in such that water vapor carried by convection currents around the equator does not precipitate.

There are no forests on the continent of Antarctica -- it's too cold to grow anything, or at the north pole, which is sea water.
