Why are there small cells?

because if a cell is too large, it takes more DNA, work, and maintenance to keep it living, whereas if it is a small cell, transport is quicker and DNA, work, and maintenance are quicker and takes less effort than large cells


* it is also better for cells to have a larger surface area: volume ratio so that transport is easier
