It is unclear why nothing was ever written about Jesus, outside the gospels. Even the gospels ultimately come back to a single source, since scholars say that the Gospels of Matthew and Luke were actually copied from Mark's Gospel, and that John's Gospel was inspired by Luke's Gospel with some material copied direct from Mark.
The most significant Jewish historian living around the time of Jesus was Philo of Alexandria, who wrote of every sect and religious movement that he knew of in the world of Judaism, yet he never mentioned Jesus, although scholars believe he would have had he heard of Jesus. Later in the first century, the Jewish historian, Josephus, wrote a series of books on his own life and the history of the Jews. He briefly recorded the death of John the Baptist in 36 CE, and the stoning of James, as well as mentioning the Christians who seemed to follow a Jesus who was said to have been crucified. He also mentioned a number of failed religious leaders and revolutionaries from the first half of the first century. Yet Josephus never mentioned the life and crucifixion of Jesus, although his miracles and resurrection should have brought him to the attention of Josephus.
If Jesus of Nazareth really lived, performed amazing miracles, was crucified at the express demand of the Sanhedrin and was seen by many after his resurrection, there is no explanation as to why no first-century historian, Roman, Greek or Jew, ever mentioned Jesus.
