There are fault lines in those areas, and when the earth's plates move, they cause earthquakes. There are two fault lines in San Francisco, but I do not know how much in Japan.

California and Japan are both on tectonic plate boundaries, so when those boundaries move it causes massive earthquake, which is why you hear about it on the news all the time :)

Yes there was an earthquake in japan but if u r asking about the one that happened recently then of course and the earthquake was so powerful it almost caused a tsunami on the coast of Oregon and California but there has been plenty of earthquakes in Japan, so I'm not sure why you would ask that.

Why do you have so many range in California?

There are many mountain ranges in California because of tectonic forces like earthquakes or volcanoes.

Why do earthquakes mostly hit Japan?

Because they are in the ring of fire, a very volcanic area around the pacific tectonic plate that always moves and causes earthquakes, in California, Alaska, Haiti, and ofcourse Japan. I'm 13 ________________________ They do not. There are earthquakes all over the world, every day. But because Japan is part of the "Ring of Fire" around the Pacific Ocean, Japan does sometimes experience severe quakes. But then, so does California, South America, Iran, and New Zealand. And earthquakes can hit almost anywhere. See the link below for the real-time list of "recent earthquakes".

Explain in an essay how the geography of japan affected its history and society include the role of the ring of fire?

The mountains made the Japanese move to the coast to make their homes, and as a result, they started to eat a bunch of fish. The Ring of Fire is an area that has many earthquakes and volcanoes. It goes right through Japan, so that's why Japan has so many earthquakes and volcanoes. Also, the Ring of Fire's earthquakes and volcanoes shape Japan, and that's why it has so many mountains.

Why do students go to cram schools in japan?

Do Japan get a lot of earthquakes?

There are so many earthquakes in Japan because the country is in what is called the Pacific Ring of Fire which is an area where large numbers of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant. Another reason why Japan has so many earquakes is because there are so many different tectonic plates (layers of the earth's crust) underneath it and each plate keeps rubbing with the other plates. Earthquakes cause a bit of damage but not a lot in Japan, this is because they have happened lots of times so people in Japan have managed create buildings that probabley won't get destroyed by an earthquake. Japan also has an Earthquake and tsunami warnings which are basically alarms so they knew when an earthquake was happening. most houses in Japan are made out of cheap, light materials so they won't kill people who are inside.

Is California the only state in the US that experiences frequent or strong earthquakes?

No it is not. In fact these states are the ones that have the most and strongest earthquakes Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Washington, and California. The reason that you hear about California so much is because California it is right by the fault line. So the plates collide mostly on the border of the US, which is California.
