Simply 'Thumb Holes'.
If you are trying to make the thumb hole then you just sew a basic button hole (but larger of course)
Big Thumb
Thumb on the back hole and the first three holes on the front.
E on the recorder is... Your back thumb down and your first three fingers, your pointer, middle, and ring finger on the first three holes. Then your next 2 fingers on the two holes before the space with 2 holes.
You put your left thumb on the left thumb hole, and the next two top holes NOT THE REGISTER KEY OR THE A KEY
recorder
The bassoon has the most keys out of any instrument. It has 9 keys for the left thumb alone, 4 for the right thumb, 4 keys and 2 holes for the left hand and 6 keys and 2 holes for the right hand. This makes a total of 23 keys and 4 holes.
Put two fingers on two holes and cover the hole on the other side with your thumb.

recorder
thumb and highest two holes. That's not the best explanation. Let me be more specific..... To play the A key, place your thumb on the hole found beneath the holes on the top side of the recorder. Let your thumb remain there. Once then, place your LEFT hand and your index & middle finger on the first or top two holes. Blow not too hard or soft, just right, and hold your recorder at the perfect angle as well. (Note: This means your left thumb is on the bottom hole) I hope this way a better help!
