Water buffalos don't resemble the American bison at all; they're about as alike as a sheep and a cow. Well, perhaps a little more alike, but not so you'd confuse them. Bison were called buffalo because of a perceived resemblance to the Asian water buffalo, which just goes to show people don't use their powers of observation.
They more resemble cattle than hippo's and besides aren't Hippo's also animals ?
Predators which are carnivorous animals prey on and eat buffalo. Humans also eat buffalo, even though they are not carnivorous themselves.
Buffalos were used to make materials for the Plains Indians because that was their main animal at the time, and the easiest to find. Some techniques they used to hunt buffalo were stampeding them off of cliffs, and dressing in animal costumes.
The Native Americans never used the heart of the Buffalo because they believed that everything had a spirit so instead they bury the heart of the Buffalo where the animal died or where it was killed and then the spirit would bring more Buffalos.
Cows and buffalos may have split from the same ancestor in the last 200,000 years. American Buffalos and cows can interbreed and have fertile children which shows a close relationship. Cows have a closer relationship with American Buffalos than with any other animal and the reverse is also true.
Buffalos were originally cattle then they bred them with oxen which was know as bison and as the bison bred the cattle in them got smaller and smaller and now are called buffalos but Americans call the there proper name bison....
The water buffalo is a very important animal in Asian and European agriculture. A lot of Italian Mozzarella is made from buffalo milk. It's a grazing animal and a vegetarian except when it inadvertantly ingests bugs and worms in its food. The concept of a water buffalo eating a hippopotamus is a most unlikely, not to say impossible, one. Even if a water buffalo should show such carnivorous ambition the hippo would be more than capable of resisting being eaten. Not a lot of creatures eat hippos, even those who live on the same continent - which water buffalos don't, in the wild.
