With most mammals, head first presentation is ideal because the head is the largest part of the fetus, so it clears the way for the rest of the body(although in some animals, like cats, tail first is considered a variation of normal). In cetaceans however, it is different. If they are born head first, there is a higher risk of the baby inhaling water and thus drowning.
If they were born head first.....they might die before they got to the surface! They are mammals and need to go to the surface to breathe.
head first
Whales have live births just like humans. Baby whales are born in the water and may either come out head first or tail first.baby whales are born just like humans.
First the tail stock then the flukes are the part at the end of the tail.
whales are the ones that have a horizontal tail with all the sea mammals. sharks and every sea creature has a vertical tail for every sea creature that breaths with the gillsilts.
Sort of. The Sperm whales tail is about 6-7 metres long.
Ten feet
The Tail Slap or Tail Lob is what you are describing. The meaning of this behavior is not really known, it has been suspected to mean it is a way to ward off other whales, or to invite other whales to join a group.
it helps them attack predators.
About half a ton.
Yes. Breeding behavior is complex and often involves three or more gray whales. The Gestation period is about one year, and females reproduce biennially. The calf is born tail first, and measures about 4 meters in length at birth. The Gray Whales give birth to their young in shallow lagoon waters. This is done to protect the newborn from predators like sharks and orcas
Dolphins are born tail first because.......they might die before they got to the surface to breathe!! They are mammals like us, and do not have gills.
They have the tail and their flippers. Some whales have vestigial(undeveloped) leg bones embedded in their tails.
