One of the main reasons as to why the worms are slimy is that their bodies are lathered with mucus. This dissipates and turns into oxygen. It gets into their bodies which allows them to breathe. They mainly inhale and exhale through the skin. This is the reason they need to be wet. It's the only way they can breathe. The earthworm would die if the mucus is removed.
Hope this helps.
Earthworms are smooth because they excrete a mucus. The mucus serves as a lubricant for the worm as it digs in the soil. Without it, they could only dig in very soft soil.
Round Worms.
Earthworms might look smooth but they have bristles, called setae, that help to hold them in their tunnels.
Those are tapeworms. Go to the vet to get medication.

Because glass is a smooth surface. Worms move by using microscopic hairs on their bodies to provide traction so they can pull themselves forward.
Segmented worms like an earthworm literally have segments. You can see on their skin that they are divided into little connected pieces (segments) that make up their whole body. A flat worm is simply smooth the entire length. Source: Biology class (fairfield preparatory school)
Normally no. Maggots are sometimes used to help treat wounds, but other worms are generally a bad sign. Some bad worms are heart worms, round worms, tape worms, pin worms, and hook worms.
Flatworms such as tape worms and flukes, and roundworms such as trichinosis-causing worms, filarial worms, ascarid worms and hook worms.
Meal-worms are actually beetle grubs - NOT worms.
