Each of us chooses a style and a group in which we find comfort. Emo is far from unique or different, but that's a whole essay in itself. You can adopt the style because you like it and that's as far as it goes. Or you may feel a kinship with the depressed and self destructive. But if you truly feel that, eventually you will have to get help, or find a path for yourself. Emo is a temporary state, everything evolves. So you can adopt the style or the group if that's what suits you now.
