Best Answer

Yes. It carries oxygen from and carbon dioxide to the lungs, nutrients from the digestive system or storage sites to tissues that require them, and waste products from the tissues to the liver for detoxification and to the kidneys for disposal.

The Blood contains nutrients (e.g. , glucose, fatty acids, vitamins, amino acids), waste products of metabolism ( urea, uric acid), respiratory gases ( oxygen and carbon dioxide), and hormones. This is according to Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology by Elaine Marieb.

Blood plasma is 90% water and 10% chemicals, which are either dissolved or suspended . The fuction of plasma is to transport those chemicals to the cells that use or excrete them. These chemicals include; * Nutrients-eg amino acids, glucose and vitamins * Waste products-eg urea * Hormones-eg adrenaline and insulin * Mineral salts-eg calcium and iron * Plasma proteins-eg prothrombin, fibrinogen and albumin * Respiratory gases- eg carbon dioxide and oxygen

Everything, but often nutrients are carried by specific or non-specific carriers within the blood rather than being dissolved in the blood. For example, oxygen is carried by the haemoglobin on red blood cells and vitamin B12 is carried on transcobalamin. Lots of nutrients are carried on the most abundant blood protein, albumin, which is also responsible for carrying a large amount of drugs.
