Hippos have lungs, just like you and I. And lungs don't work if you try to breathe water.
When diving they hold their breath..
To breathe water, an animals need gills - like a fish - or some similar structure.
no, they cant stupid
The reason you cant breathe under water is because people is made to breathe oxygen, water composes oxygen.
cause you don't have gills but we have lungs to breathe the oxygen in water
the hippo because when the hippo go into the water the elephant cant go because it cant swim
mammals cant breathe underwater only some of them like a beaver and the family...
they cant breathe because if we do we can drink the water and possibly choke and die.
From what I know about chemical compunds, there is too much H (Hydrogen) in water for land animals to breathe as there is none in air, or close to it. Also, it doesn't include Argon or Nitrogen. For their counterpart, Water animals can not breathe air(Except for dolphins and lung fish) because they do not reach a sufficient amount of Hydrogen. That's my guess anyway.
Yes. goldfish breathe water so if a goldfish is out of water it cant breathe so it will suffocate
the majority of oxygen is found in water therefore you cannot breathe the oxygen in water
Because fish have gills, and breathe water- and I cant!
Babies don't breathe the water in the womb. Their mothers breathe for them, and supply them with oxygen through the umbilical cord. Babies don't start breathing until they are born. Humans, well no mammal can breathe water, because our lungs can't get any oxygen from it. Although they do the same job, gills work in a slightly different manner, which allows fish to get oxygen from the water the way we get it from the air.
they arent because they cant breathe air
